All Classes
Who can attend this class?
Seniors and anyone with Parkinson’s disease or related movement concerns are welcome to attend, along with their caregivers, friends, or family members.
Do I need to have Parkinson’s to join?
No you do not. Although our program is specifically designed for people with Parkinson’s, we welcome seniors and those with related movement disorders and their caregivers.
What will we do?
All of our classes incorporate the following elements and are woven together using choreography: increasing range of motion, core strength, balance, posture and gracefulness, fluidity, rhythm and coordination, expression, and fun!
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. Shoes are optional, but many participants prefer to wear comfortable sneakers, socks or flat shoes with good support.
Do I need to bring anything to class?
You don’t need to bring anything special, but water is recommended. Chairs are available for seated dancing, so no additional equipment is required.
How long are the classes?
Classes typically last 75 minutes, with breaks as needed. Participants are encouraged to listen to their bodies and take breaks whenever necessary.
Is previous dance experience required?
No! Even if you have never danced before but you are interested in trying, the EMB program and our dance classes are for you.
Should I bring someone with me?
Care partners and family members are welcome to attend the class if a dancer requires more personalized assistance, but are not required. If you are attending in-person, EMB has well-trained volunteers to help those who need a little extra support.
What is Dance for PD?
Dance for PD is a specialized dance program designed for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. The classes use dance to address balance, coordination, flexibility, and mobility in a creative and fun environment. No prior dance experience is required.
What qualifications do the teaching artists have?
Our online and in-person dance classes are taught by EMB instructors who are trained in the Dance for PD® Method. They are highly skilled and have extensive experience delivering effective, fun, and artistic programming centered on creative self-expression and meaningful connection.
How much does the class cost?
Class is $55 a month which provides you access to all our classes either in person or online via Zoom. You will also have access to our online video library of recoreded classes that you can can do on your own time. Financial assistance is made possible by corporate sponsors and donations.
How can I register for a class?
You can register by calling or emailing us, or visiting our class page. Walk-ins are often welcome, but pre-registration helps us ensure we have enough space and support for everyone.
Do I need my doctor’s permission to take this class?
We recommend you consult with your doctor prior to starting classes just as you would consult before starting any new exercise program.
I have trouble standing and balancing. Can I do this class?
Yes! You can join us seated, standing, in a wheelchair, or using a walker. Our classes are adaptable, and you can participate whether standing, seated, or a combination of both. Instructors will offer modifications to meet your needs.
Will dancing help with my Parkinson's symptoms?
Studies suggest that dance can help improve balance, mobility, and mood for people with Parkinson’s disease. However, individual experiences vary, and you should consult with your healthcare provider for guidance.
Can I try a class before committing?
Yes, we encourage new participants to try a class before committing.
What’s the atmosphere like?
Our classes are supportive, non-judgmental, and fun. The focus is on movement and self-expression rather than perfection.
What if I miss a class?
No problem! Come to class when you are able. We will always have a spot for you!
When is a good time to start?
Now is a great time to start! We offer classes year-round and introduce new movement opportunities each week.
Zoom Classes
How do I log into the Zoom class?
When you register for your online dance class, you will receive an email with the date and time of the class, and also a ZOOM link. You will use the same ZOOM link for every class.
How should I prepare for my Zoom class?
Be sure you have the most recent version of Zoom installed on the device you will be joining the class from. You can download Zoom here:

Give yourself a few extra minutes before each class to make sure that you are connected to the internet and that no Zoom updates are required.
Simply click on the Zoom link for the class and follow the prompts.
Do I need a chair? What kind should I use?
A chair will be used for the warm-up or as needed throughout the class. Choose a chair that is stable, supportive, and comfortable, such as a kitchen or dining room chair. Ensure that your chair does not have wheels.
How should I prepare my space?
Whether you are seated or standing, be sure that you have enough space for your arms and legs to move freely in your fullest expression!
Do I need to keep my camera on?
You are welcome to turn your camera on or keep it off — whatever makes you the most comfortable.
