Empowered to move.

This class is designed to deliver a joyful experience. Come for the community and stay for the music and movement. It’s sure to empower you!
A class designed for ANYONE living with movement concerns to rediscover joy through dance.

All are welcome to attend, regardless of ability or level of mobility, an enjoyable social environment that emphasizes dancing for dancing’s sake in a judgment-free zone. Classes based on the internationally-acclaimed, research-backed Dance for PD program allows participants to experience the grace, fluidity, music, community and joy that dancing brings.

Why Dance?
    • Involves a range of activities aimed at helping you walk tall, stay steady, and keep those pesky tremors at bay.
    • Boosts your brainpower, sharpens your memory, focus and all-round thinking skills.
    • Makes your brain do a happy dance by letting loose some dopamine!
    • Unleash your creativity and explore new ideas, opportunities, and experiences.
    • We want to create a joyful space where everyone can groove to their own beat and share in the joy of music and movement without any judgment.

Classes foster an enriching, safe and creative environment for participants and their family, friends, and caregivers. Through an engaging approach, students learn to enhance their aesthetic awareness and grace while addressing concerns including mobility, flexibility, freezing, gait, social isolation, and depression. The class consists of movements from ballet, modern dance, musical theater, tap, improvisation, and choreography to engage the participants’ minds and bodies. Explore movement and music in ways that are fun, stimulating, creative and empowering!

A wide variety of music will be used to fuel your soul. Options for modifying the movements are always presented so everyone can participate and feel empowered. Regardless if you join us standing or seated, all movements, whether small or big, are valid and valued.

What our dancers have to say…

Lisa is very creative in her class preparation and challenges us each week with multiple dance moves. She loves what she does, is very energetic and very positive.

We are very fortunate to have a person like Lisa in this area that is very talented and passionate in wanting to make a difference in our lives.

Thank you Lisa

The class is fun and challenges my brain and muscle coordination with a group of people who have the same challenges. Like many things in life it can be directly the result of a good coach or instructor and we have a great one. I didn’t realize there were that many positions and order of positions you can direct your body parts to accomplish (and I am sure we have just scratched the surface in the short time we have been doing this). It also helps to have a coach who can demonstrate what we should be doing and have the patience to tell us again and again and again. Who would have thought I would be doing ballet and enjoying it. Thank you Lisa.

I am aware of the importance of exercise for people living with Parkinson’s and I have discovered that matching movement to music greatly enhances my ability to move. It seems that including music allows my brain and muscles to communicate more effectively. I love being able to participate in dance classes for people with Parkinson’s.
